Are you eligible?
You need to be a new Questrade client. That means no account with Questrade, Inc. or Questrade Wealth Management Inc. in the last 5 years, and no existing application sitting in the system.
Each new client can use one referral code only, and it can't be combined with other Questrade offer codes. So if you've already entered a different promo code, this one won't stack on top of it.
How to enter the code on the website
- Start your Questrade application online.
- On the account type screen, click the green Enter code button.

Take a second to check you've typed all 15 digits correctly. It's a long one, and copying and pasting is safer than typing it by hand.

- Open the Questrade app and start a new application.

What you need to do to get the $50
Entering the code is only step one. To actually get paid, you also need to:
- Open a new account (Self-Directed Investing or a Questwealth Portfolio)
- Fund it with at least $250 CAD
- Do both within 60 days of starting your application
The money has to be new. Moving cash from another Questrade account doesn't count toward the $250.
Once you've met the requirements, the $50 is credited to your billing account during the following month. You can see which account is your billing account under Account Management.
Watch your registered account room
This one catches people out. If you're opening a TFSA, RRSP, FHSA or RESP, the bonus counts as a contribution to that account. That means you need enough contribution room to cover your deposit plus the bonus.
It's worth checking your room with the CRA before you fund the account, especially for a TFSA if you've made withdrawals or contributions over the years. If you're not sure how it works for your situation, a tax adviser can tell you.
What if you forgot to enter the code?
Questrade's instructions only describe entering the code during the application. I couldn't find a documented way to add it afterwards, so don't count on it working once the account is open.
If you've already applied without it, contact Questrade support as soon as you can and ask whether anything can be done. It's a long shot, but it costs nothing to ask.
Is it worth it?
A $50 bonus for a $250 deposit is a fair return, and the bar to clear is low. The bigger question is whether Questrade is the right account for you. It's a good fit if you want a self-directed TFSA or RRSP with commission-free ETF purchases, or a managed Questwealth Portfolio. Stock trades and ETF sales do carry commissions, so check the fee schedule if you plan to trade often.
